LI Electrical Vehicle Drivers Offered Reduced Price Solar For Charging Vehicles

Long Island electrical vehicle drivers offered reduced price solar systems for charging their vehicles 10/21/2011

SUNation will be offering residential solar systems at a reduced price through the “Drive Green for Life” program recently announced by Ford and SunPower Corp. The “Drive Green for Life” Program affords buyers of Ford’s 2012 zero emissions, fuel free Focus Electric vehicles (EV) the opportunity to reduce lifetime auto costs and eliminate long-term EV charging costs. The program refers Focus Electric buyers to SunPower Elite Dealers such as SUNation, who will install a high-efficiency, 2.5 KW SunPower Solar System on their homes for less than $10,000 after state and federal incentives. The rooftop solar system provides enough renewable energy production to offset the energy used for charging. Consumers who are tired of spending thousands of dollars a year at gas pumps can now charge their eco-friendly EV using 100% renewable energy instead. Some consumers may decide to install a larger solar system to meet their home electricity demands as well. “We are committed to sharing our passion for renewable energy, and this partnership is a win-win for us all,” said Scott Maskin, Co-Owner of SUNation Solar Systems. “This program gives the eco-conscious consumer a sustainable solution to off-set the cost of electricity required to charge their vehicles. The financial incentives are strong, and we are confident that this program will increase exposure and demand for solar on Long Island.” SunPower E18 solar panels are used for the 2.5 kilowatt roof mount system, which produces an average of 3,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually. These high efficiency solar panels generate approximately 50 percent more electricity than conventional panels and utilize a smaller footprint on the roof. The system was sized to accommodate a customer who drives about 1,000 miles per month. Electric vehicles are expected to become more and more common in the coming years, making this initiative even more beneficial to consumers. Electrification is an important piece of Ford’s overall product sustainability strategy, which includes the launch of five electrified vehicles in North America by 2012 and in Europe by 2013. This diverse range of electrified vehicles allows Ford to meet a variety of consumer driving needs.
